Good morning lovely people,
We had our first event and it’s been a blast! More opportunities to connect in the making, so stay tuned ✌🏼
PS: A bit random but here’s a useful breakdown of taxes in Italy if you’re planning to do freelancing. Btw I’m thinking of making a directory of useful specialist in Milan who speak English. Have a good commercialista? Sharing is caring - send me their contact by replying to this email.

Photo Walk: Milan Framed (Sat May 30, 6pm ) The theme is framing - using arches, doorways, and greenery to create a frame within a frame. Cinematic, architectural, urban. Currently waitlist only, but considering the level of flakiness on meetup, you have a good chance getting in.
Art in the Park — Paint & Sip Workshop (Sat May 30, 4pm) Outdoor painting session with wine involved. Haven’t been there personally, but dates seem to book out fast so I guess it can’t be too bad.
Culture & Entertainment
BAM Circus — Festival delle Meraviglie, V Edizione (Fr 22 - Sun 24 May) Twenty Italian circus companies taking over one of the most beautiful parks in the city for the fifth year running. Free, outdoor, should be fun.

🏙 Local News
Lufthansa takes 90% of ITA Airways - Italy's national carrier is now effectively German. Europe's largest airline group announced Tuesday it's exercising its option to buy a 90% majority stake in ITA Airways for €325M. Italy keeps 10%. Subject to EU and US regulatory approvals, expected to close by Q1 2027. Travellers can eventually expect better connectivity through Frankfurt/Munich hubs and more long-haul routes. → Euronews
Hantavirus: not today. After a fatal hantavirus case on a Johannesburg-Amsterdam KLM flight, Italy placed four fellow passengers in 42-day precautionary quarantine across four regions. A British tourist was isolated at Milan's Sacco Hospital. He tested negative on Tuesday, as did his travel companion. Italy's health ministry says transmission risk is low and there are no confirmed Italian cases. Deja-vu much? → The Local
Italy is going nuclear — eventually. Meloni told parliament on Wednesday that the government will pass a legislative framework for small modular reactors this summer. Italy abandoned nuclear after a 1986 referendum post-Chernobyl; the last plant closed in 1990. The new plan is private-sector operated and framed as an energy security move amid elevated global tensions. (If Olympic construction is any indication of delivery timelines, we'd probably be wiped out by existing nuclear powers before Italy builds one.) → Voice of Emirates
The government unveiled a housing access plan. With a 2027 general election approaching, Meloni's government presented measures to expand housing access…for Italians. The detail is thin, but enough to earn some votes. → Bloomberg

Total funding now €36M. The company makes quantum algorithms commercially viable for chemistry, materials science, and life sciences. This signals Italy's pivot toward quantum computing infrastructure. → TechEU
Italy Launches IT4LIA AI Factory — Europe's New AI Supercomputer. Italy accelerating AI infrastructure race with new supercomputing hub positioning Italy as one of Europe's key AI hubs. Part of broader national strategy to close R&D-to-commercialisation gap in deeptech. → E-Tech
